Thanks for sharing that. I was wondering how many of the rights and privileges of marriage these sorts of partnerships had and was going to check on that with my friend today, but now I can message her about something else. 😸

She did tell me that from her mother's generation on (young adults in the 1960s and 70s) that there was a great backlash against the Catholic Church and the traditionalism it brought, much of it with a feminist bent. The provincial law about women not using the husband's last name comes from that same time.
