Thanks for the book recommendation. I appreciate it. And, although it makes sense for everyone to use best practices when interacting with the police, Black men (and women) who are doing everything right still get shot. This man got shot while laying on the ground with his hands in the air. That doesn’t happen to White people. It just doesn’t, and even though it doesn’t happen most of the time to Black people, it happens often enough that it colors their experiences and how they go forth in the world. Just as most women are not routinely physically accosted or assaulted by men in public, it’s happened to most women at least once before and it happens to their friends and people that they hear about and so it colors their experience and perception of the world. That’s all I’m saying.
