Thanks for your thoughts here. Performance of gender norms, particularly for males, is still demanded as you say, but it is also changing - although not nearly enough. Still, compared to 50 years ago, more young men think of women as equals, want to be deeply involved with their children, and have the desire to break out of at least some of the Man Box even if they can't accomplish all of it.

Culture is beyond one person's control, but it is possible to shift it when lots of one person get together - as in the Civil Rights movement of the 50s and 60s and the women's movement of the 70s. It won't change dramatically over night, but I think it can continue to go in the right direction with concerted effort and intention.
