Thanks Jessica! It’s an interesting path — for him, and for us. He’s about to turn 21, and although Hugh has made a lot of great strides in recent years, he still lives with us, and maybe always will. Because he’s impulsive and non-verbal, we can’t leave him home alone, and so that means always having to find a sitter if we want/need to do things without him.
AND, as tough as it’s been, it’s a path that has also come with a lot of beauty and gifts. I don’t know that I would have delved into non-traditional life so fully if I’d been more immersed in it in other ways. Hey, there’s a writing prompt for me right there….. 😉
