That wouldn't have worked for me due to the complexity of both my last name and his, which is why I didn't go that route, but I agree that it's nice to be able to find people by the name you always knew them under. I know one couple who hyphenated both of their names and then both adopted those. It works well, but then their kids won't really be able to do the same thing because it will get too unwieldy.
There are several European countries where women cannot legally take their husband's last name. Perhaps that's my next story related to this.
