That’s lovely that you believe that everyone is equal. But it doesn’t mean that our society isn’t founded upon comparing ourselves to others and seeing if we rank lower or higher than they do in the social hierarchy. Otherwise, no one would care if someone had a nicer car than them or was fatter than them. There would be no bullying because there would be no need to demonstrate to someone else that they are inferior; there would be no homophobia because there would be no impulse toward gender conformity; there would be no sexual harassment because there would be no desire to continually test power dynamics with women.

This explains why #MeToo is so widespread and spans so many levels of abusive behavior. Men who embrace the man box culture of dominance are testing boundaries at every level with every woman in their orbit, modulating those tests from micro to macro-aggressions depending on the context and relative power of their targets. If their micro-aggressions are challenged in an relatively equal power relationship, say in the workplace, these men will quickly back pedal, throwing up their hands, saying “I was only joking.”

You pretending that something doesn’t exist doesn’t actually make it so.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
