That's not an answer to the question of why you can't just be whomever you actually are and why you need someone to show you how to fit into an artificial box that somebody else has constructed. If masculinity is innate and "natural" then you shouldn't need someone to tell you how to do it. Plus, lots of boys grow up without dads or with shitty dads who never teach them anything except who they wouldn't want to be like my husband's dad who turn out just fine.
Unfortunately, I do understand the Tate following all too well. Either tell me the specific things that a boy needs to learn about being a man that he has to be taught by another man or admit that this is a meaningless phrase that is bandied about as if it were gospel but that doesn't actually signify anything whatsoever.
