That's terrible - and yet another indication of how destructive and isolating these rules really are. Not surprised that you get looked at sideways for not toeing the line, although I'm still sorry to hear it.

I wrote this in part because so many men want to act like women are making this stuff up, and what this research demonstrates is that men are fully aware of these norms, and even to some extent know that they are harmful, but the culture still wants them to uphold them anyhow, and because of that pressure, a lot of men will do it and then ask, "Why are women complaining?"
