The attack on the Capitol was spearheaded by several White nationalist organizations, but the Proud Boys were right there at the forefront. They are an all-male chauvenistic organization, as you undoubtedly know. This is perhaps what has led to the impression that it was primarily a male endeavor, although I agree that there were plenty of women there.

And, I also agree with you that it's important to be as precise as possible when discussing these things and to not omit our own part in any cultural dynamics.

The patriarchal dominance hierarchy definitely has wealth and class as factors, which is one of the reasons that so many white men do not have much experience of their privilege. Those who are less rich or affirmatively poor see how the rich/upper class have many, many more advantages than they do which can obscure for them all the ways that they do still have privilege in relation to others. This is why I write about the social system of patriarchy and all the many ways that it unfairly stratifies society, beyond the male/female dynamic.

"This is because patriarchy is a pyramid, with only a few elites at the top. In the US, not all White men are at the top of the hierarchy, but nearly everyone at the top is a White man. This stratification and dominance-based culture is harmful to everyone, even those who are successful at it because it erodes their humanity. In order to get to higher levels or to even maintain position, you have to dominate other people and make sure they know their place. And not only does this apply to other individuals, but to whole classes of other people as well."

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
