The cultural narrative that this will and should be enough starts to break down after you've lived in it for a couple of decades. You can absolutely adore those roles and still feel like you need to find more of yourself. Thinking about how I really wanted to be living rather than how I "should" be living was revolutionary for my marriage and has made us both happier and closer than ever because there are no more unspoken polite secrets about attraction to other people. We can be completely honest with each other and that level of vulnerability has been amazing for our relationship.
