The dictionary often gives the simplest, most culturally accessible definition. Sometimes it even gives the wrong definition. For example, one dictionary definition I saw of polyamory equated it with swingers, which is a rather distinctly different type of ethical non-monogamy and is totally in error.

I invite you to look deep into your own subconscious and try to determine what your strong reaction to patriarchy as a male-led dominance based hierarchy is actually about. Because unless you can present something more concrete to debate the people who have studied this other than "I don't like that so it can't be true" I'm going to have to postulate that it is something emotional and not cognitive that is going on for you.
