The Dog Police

Cooper thinks this is his true calling

Cooper watching over some puppies who came to visit

Our other dog Lars is half German Shepherd, but it’s Cooper who thinks that he is the police dog, or rather, the dog police. He likes nothing better than breaking up cat fun or running birds off the greenway. Coop doesn’t want to catch those birds. In fact, if he gets too close, Cooper will run in place so as to be sure not to catch them, but he still wants to chase them off, and it’s bonus points if they honk and quack as they go. It’s extra satisfying that way.

He has a lot of herding dog in him, although Cooper is really a super-mutt, but perhaps that’s where all of this comes from, a genetic predisposition to boss other animals around. We were at the park yesterday and two big dogs were wrestling quite loudly, bordering on what sounded almost like a fight. Coop went over and started barking at them. “You two cut that out — that’s enough!” Dog police to the rescue.

At home, he makes sure that all deliverymen know that they aren’t welcome and monitors the cats to make sure that they aren’t squabbling or playing too boisterously. When a friend who was fostering two puppies came to visit, Cooper watched over them carefully the entire time. Thank goodness for the dog police keeping our home and neighborhood safe!

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
