There could just as easily be five women and one man, and the women overpower and keep the man in check. The Electoral College was created long before the 10th Amendment so I think you are off base about that. Democracy is imperfect, but it's also better than any of the alternatives. Anarchy means we turn into a Mad Max society where power is only held by the strongest and most ruthless with no checks on that at all and constant warring for control. You want to talk about gang rape.... No thank you!

In my experience, the only thing worse than the Federal government are state governments. They are rife with incompetent people with big egos - even more than on the Federal level. To me the political theory of all this is irrelevant since it has little bearing on the here and now. We have the government that we have, and although we can make tweaks to that, longing for something entirely different, something that wouldn't work any better, I might add, is pointless.
