The father is also being charged in the same way, but I agree that although they made some bad missteps, none of them were criminally negligent. All of this is a left-handed way to try to bring about some kind of sensible gun responsibility, which our elected officials on both sides of the aisle repeatedly refuse to do, but it's misguided. Turning the parents into scapegoats won't meaningfully impact gun deaths in our culture. We need to do better on a wide variety of fronts.
