The history of humanity says yes. Although this is not a preferred thing, sometimes it is a necessary thing. It has a long evolutionary history as a way for humans to maximize evolutionary potential. Besides the fact that a zygote is not a baby, quality of life should mean at least as much as simply existing, and the life of the mother should mean as much or more than that of a potential life. Overwhelmingly, most women seeking abortions already have a least one child and cannot afford to care for another one. Until we live in a society where that isn’t the case, people like you need to stop dealing in abstracts and grapple with the realities. Human beings require a network of support in order to thrive.
Your emotional investment in this is entirely devoid of the realities in play. It’s naive and full of cruelty. You believe you are the one who is being compassionate, but you aren’t. Criminalizing abortion doesn’t decrease the numbers — only the numbers of safe and legal abortions. Abortion has always existed and it always will because sometimes it is medically necessary. If you want to decrease the number of abortions, you need to put your time and energy into preventing unwanted pregnancies to say nothing of laws that make men take responsibility for the costs of pregnancy and of raising of children. 100% of unwanted pregnancies are caused by irresponsible ejaculation on the part of men and leaving women alone to pay the price for this is inhumane and misogynistic.
In addition, women who have ectopic pregnancies are going to die because they can’t get the medical intervention that they need. Women who have miscarriages where the entire product of the miscarriage is not naturally expelled are going to die. Women who have uterine sepsis are going to die — all because men like you don’t want to grapple with the realities of what this really means. You won’t be saving any lives — not a single one — but you will be causing further suffering and unnecessary deaths. Grow up! Your ideology absent the pragmatics of what it would really mean is worthless.
