The idea of "manly" traits is only about 6-9 thousand years old though, coming straight out of the social system of patriarchy which is relatively recent, so I don't really buy into the idea that these were shaped by the necessity of having them in the culture. And I'll say it once again, if it's actually adaptive, it's not causing things like depression, substance abuse issues and suicide. It's not leading to violence and other anti-social behavior.

Thanks for your comment, but unless you can give me a more concrete example of how your premise would work, I don't think it really stands up to the criteria I've laid out about what makes something natural.
