The Katz book is very good and I've been wanting to write something about it for a while (other than referencing it here and there in other stories) but I have about a million stories I want to write and either get distracted by another topic, or get in a phase where I want to take a break from getting condescended to and attacked - so I haven't gotten there yet. I do recommend it though.

The effect of patriarchy isn't as obviously impactful and urgent for men who have grown up believing that patriarchy means men harm women,, but it's very much at the root of nearly everything that harms them systemically as well. It's why I've written about that so often, but it still gets disbelieved and often scoffed at because it's so the ocean we all swim in and way, way too many people know zero about sociology. They believe they are individuals who have never been socialized into their gender and that this is just "how men are." When I point out to them that men in other cultures and at other time periods often behaved differently, it just kind of explodes their brains and sends them into cognitive dissonance. To be honest, it's fucking maddening.
