The new trend for middle-aged and older women is to be single or at least not to live with a man they are involved with. Women who have been married overwhelmingly don't want to do it again. They may want a relationship, but one where they have a lot more autonomy and individual power - and don't have to clean up after somebody else. I don't think you are over-stating things when you say that many men are failing to adapt and it's eventually going to really catch up with them.
