The old men that I know do not walk around afraid - quite the opposite. But it's true that most of the men I know are able-bodied white Christian heterosexuals. My female friends are a much more diverse group. And I wrote this because able-bodied white Christian heterosexual men tell me on the regular how men actually experience more violence than women as a way to shut down conversations about violence against women.

I've already amended the story after a comment from a gay friend, and will probably do so again in light of an informative (rather than combative) comment from a friend with a Black son. But the fact remains, in general, a larger percentage of women have experienced violence than men have.
