The point of this story is not that we still live in a patriarchal dominance hierarchy (although we do, despite a few recent improvements). The point is that we haven't always lived in one - as most people seem to believe.

That's why my final two sentences were these:

"Surely there are things we can learn from our pre-patriarchal ancestors about how to take better care of each other. I think that accepting that patriarchy is not timeless and inevitable is a good place to start."
