The story is these boys had repeatedly witnessed their friend doing and saying problematic things. They instantly knew which of their friends would be most likely to be a rapist -as did all the other men she asked. Pretending we don't know what he's like perpetuates a culture where 1 in 3 women will be raped and where nearly all women have experienced sexual violence - most of them beginning in childhood. Apparently you are quite comfortable with that since you keep excusing the culture that allows for it.

Ever heard the phrase, "Where there's smoke, there's fire" of "If it walks like a duck..." Naturally, if someone is being accused of a crime, they should have due process, but pretending that you should think the best of your buddy when you have all sorts of first hand evidence that he's hugely problematic is once again exactly why every woman you know (with very few exceptions) has experienced sexual violence over and over and over again. You enable it, you turn a blind eye to it - you and men like you are the problem. You say that destroying women's lives disaggregates society and yet you uphold and prop up the social conditions that allow for that to be nearly universal. Do better!

The way that “innocent until proven guilty” is used in all cultures who have that as apart of their legal system is exactly the same as in the US. It speaks to who has the burden of proof during a trial and does not require an inference of innocence in the face of evidence to the contrary.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
