The US census predicts that Whites will no longer be the majority by 2045. We are a much more diverse country than most people realize. We don’t realize that in part because most power still resides with White males. They still look like the “default” citizen.

If you call someone out on their bad behavior and instead of owning it and apologizing, they push back and make a scene, you are hardly responsible for the brouhaha. People with real grievances are still being told to shut up and sit down. The fact that they refuse to do so is not the problem or what is causing divisiveness. As you so aptly put it, it’s the “spasm of entrenched interests.”
