The US has an alarming rate of child poverty and both child and maternal mortality. This country does not currently care about babies or mothers in any meaningful way. Most women seeking abortions are already mothers, often married mothers, who do not feel they have the ability to provide for another child. The US is the only developed nation with no national funding for paid parental leave.

No-one is pro-abortion. It would be ideal if unintended conception never took place or that developing fetuses were always healthy and viable. Rather than criminalizing abortion, we should be focusing on all these issues that drive abortion rates instead.
