The vibrator was the fifth electric appliance to arrive in the home—after the sewing machine, the fan, the teakettle and the toaster. Whether or not that particular book has good quality research in it, the history of the vibrator and it's use on "hysterical" women is not something that is actually in dispute. Still, I enjoyed learning more about it here.
