There are many reasons that this behavior is offensive and cruel, but the primary reason is that Jesus would never have behaved this way and doing so in his name is a blasphemy. It's idolatry and completely unacceptable from a theological perspective. It's creating god in your own image and using divinity for your own political purposes. Shameful!
