There are no guarantees in any human relationship. I'm sorry that your attempts at communication didn't work out. I'm sure that is frustrating and hurtful, but it's kind of patently obvious that someone should go into this sort of discussion hopeful, but not expecting miracles. That isn't how interpersonal relationships work on any level. You can't just put a coin in the vending machine and get the result that you wish. Life is not a transaction that you can control by doing what other people have determined is "the right thing." That doesn't mean it's not worthwhile to at least attempt to have meaningful communication and/or go into counseling.
