There are US cities that have taken abandoned motels or other low cost housing and designated them as living space for the homeless. Having a roof over your head, a place to shower, and the sense that you are not disposable, but are an actual human being means a lot of these folks can become employed and move on to something better — and it comes with a lot of social good for the society as a whole as well.
