There was literally nobody in the high school I went to (in the early 80s) who behaved this way or who would have even been tolerated if they had -much less applauded. I see this as the perfect storm of hook-up culture, ubiquitous porn, life that revolves around social media, and pushback against societal gains for women. It's both artificial (as distinct from authentic) and relatively recent. Sure, the dominance hierarchy has existed for several thousand years, but not in this particularly toxic iteration.
