There's actually some scientific studies that have found that men are inherently more emotional than women, but that they are just forced to suppress that by culture. I think it's more likely that individuals are just that - individual, with different personalities and propensities, but yeah, that sure wasn't a very logical assertion and in fact, it sounds like an entirely emotional lash-out at a particular woman in his life.
