There's an old story that the most brutal overseers were former slaves. I don't know that I entirely understand the psychology of that dynamic, but I do believe that just because someone has experienced bullying or discrimination does not necessarily make them a safe person.

This entire debacle feels too bizarre to not be true. I wish that weren't the case, but I think it most likely is.
