This entire piece made me just a little bit teary. Nat is just as much my life-partner as James is, even though I haven't gotten to touch him for over 4 years. I miss that part, and some days I miss it a lot, but in general, we just focus on these other aspects that you have described and it's very beautiful and satisfying. Love is bigger and more nuanced then we've been taught to believe and teaching people, particularly women, to seek the kind of "you complete me" stuff that is fed to us by Hollywood, Disney and Christianity with it's "two become one" rhetoric is damaging. Other people aren't meant to complete us, but I think we are meant to find connection and love in a wide variety of ways, even in monogmous relationships, even when not officially paired.
