This is exactly why women don't speak up at the time, aside from the fact that "freeze" is one of the major neurological responses to trauma, one that is not necessarily in the person's control. Women know that historically, speaking up against a personal violation is likely to get them labeled a problem, in the line for reprisals, and/or fired.

Theorizing what might have happened if more women had spoken up sooner about Cuomo is about as practical as wondering what would have happened if it hadn't taken 60 women accusing Bill Cosby before anything was taken seriously. Yes, the climate is beginning to change a little bit and there is some safety in numbers. And of course, we need to continue to encourage women to stand up for themselves in the moment, but until that comes with fewer costs, you are just blaming the victim.

Go look at the Twitter tag #TooManyWomen and notice how many women spoke up or slapped someone in the moment and got punished for doing so. Until that changes, "grow some labia" is awfully shaming and high and mighty to say to someone.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
