This is so true. In addition, there are a host of health conditions/diseases that impact metabolism or the ability to look slim. Being able to afford or even access healthy foods is a huge problem for a lot of Americans. People love to hide their judgement behind health concerns, but there are actually about 30% of people who look overweight who have perfect blood pressures, cholesterol, etc., and about the same number of slim looking folks who don't have healthy numbers around that.

Treating weight as simply a moral failing rather than a raft of potential factors is both lazy and unkind. Thanks for writing this. When I wrote about Lizzo a while back, I was bombarded with "opinions" that tie directly into this weight = morality dynamic. It was pretty disturbing to see how mean some folks can be, because this belief is deeply ingrained in our culture.
