This makes me both angry and sad that this sort of cultural narrative is still so pervasive that a grown-ass woman would say it in the present day. As you pointed out, the modern day family experience bears little resemblance to that sort of fairy tale, even when partners do truly respect and adore each other. And, there may well be several people that we could have a satisfying and deeply connected relationship with - alongside the fact that heterosexual romance should not be viewed as the Be All, End All of life attainments. The idea of "the one" is part fairytale, part patriarchy, and part Hollywood. Enough already....
