This makes me think about the Relationship Agreement between Sheldon and Amy on the Big Bang Theory. It made for a lot of comedic moments, but it's also a really good idea to have talked through what you expect from your partner and what they can expect from you. You don't need a 31 page document spelling out every little things in intricate detail like they had, but getting largely on the same page about how you view relationships, children, and money makes a whole lot of sense, as does having ongoing communication about those topics.
