To answer your question about what would it take to have a different kind of culture, and what might that look like in a Western context, we should look to Denmark as an example - but here are some other thoughts on that as well.

Edit: This one speaks about how we have the culture that we tolerate, and how different subcultures within the US don’t tolerate many of the things that are common in the wider society. Expand that to the culture as a whole and you get a much safer, better one — for everyone.

“Sexual harassment is a domination behavior, as is sexual assault and rape. If we stopped supporting a culture that is built around gaining position and feeling good about yourself via domination of others, the instances of these sorts of things would dramatically decrease.

Patriarchal societies don’t seem to realize that having a culture based in domination and control, not just of women, but of anyone who might be considered weaker, is detrimental to actual happiness and freedom. Helping to create a more open and cooperative society would actually benefit us all on a variety of levels. If America were more like a nude beach, not only would women be safer, we’d probably all be a lot more relaxed and happy.”
