Um, I'm one of the upset commenters and I completely understand why the others are as well. This is NOT a bridge building excerise - it's a deflection intended to make women's right to be angry or upset contingent upon whether or not they are sufficiently "good" victims. In this culture, only perfect, blameless victims deserve any sympathy. Well, we're sick of that...that's our attitude.
We just had a very productive conversation where you agreed that men need to treat this as a men's issue and take the lead in addressing the problems in this culture that women pervasively face at the hands of men. This is very clearly not doing that - it's putting the onus back on the white women who "seem to be the biggest complainers" to prove that they are not just as bad as men so that he doesn't have to write a story about how men can and should lead the way on this issue. It's a deflection.
