Um... this is very literally what he said:

"We were raised by women. We were raised without strong fathers. We were raised to push down all the drive and life inside of us and become “good boys” who comply with a version of masculinity defined by women."

And the implication of that is that masculinity defined by women is effeminate (feminine like - literally what that word means). The word also means "inappropriate for a man" something which being gay is still very much considered by most men, even if they have gay friends that they accept. To be gay is to be in many ways "like a woman" because you have sex with men - a characterization that goes back to Roman times.

So, no - he didn't say that overtly but it was very much implied. I'm also friendly enough with this author that if I'd gotten the gist of what he was saying wrong, he would have told me.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
