Unfortunately, I don't know that this matters to people who are steeped in this way of thinking. It's clearly against all modern child development and purposely ignores things like developmental stages where it's normal and even beneficial for kids to push back against parents a little as they begin to individuate. Clearly, Nordic ways of actually trying to rehabilitate criminals so that they don't just end up back in the system is a way, way better method but I don't think you'll ever get "law and order" Americans to embrace that, because they'd rather throw the book at them and make them pay - even if it costs more and lands them back in jail ASAP. There's too much emotional attachment to this outlook for reason and sense to play a part. The evangelical Christian church is telling them that this is right and "godly" to break your children's will and I don't know that they would believe any statistics about how it feeds violence culture wide. You'd think it would, but sadly, I'm not sure it does.
