We have a tendency in our culture to believe whoever has the most social power - pedophile priests over children, big stars or important business leaders over people with less clout, high school football stars over random girls. I think some of that comes from conflating success with merit and with morality (thanks a lot, Protestant work ethic...) but you're absolutely right, when multiple people have accused someone, the chances are when there's that much smoke, there is fire. Powerful people misuse their power all of the time, and they are often allowed by others around them to get away with it, particularly if that person is generating big bucks. Thanks for your questions for people to ask themselves when they are feeling dismissive. Those sorts of concretes are very useful, I think.
