What Kate said - it's amazing that people can't seem to think beyond White Hats and Black Hats and to see any of the terrible nuances. Nobody is defending the actions of Hamas, but pretending like that took place in a vacuum instead of an apartheid society that Amnesty International identified as such (and so has South Africa, interestingly) is disingenuos.
John Oliver has a really good assessment of what's going on, and how Hamas doesn't represent the bulk of the Palestinians, just as the Israeli government doesn't represent the bulk of their people. It's quite well done.
