When there are about 17% women in a room, in a movie, etc., men tend to view that as a 50/50 ratio. When there are equal numbers of women, men tend to view this as being dominated by women. Same goes for racial diversity. We've had such an overtly white male culture for so long and that keeps being fed to us in books, media, etc., that anything more inclusive naturally feels like a loss to those long used to the status quo.
