While I don't disagree, I've also run across plenty of progressive, well-educated women (and men) who deeply feel that gender is a binary and even that men and women have different brains. They may support trans folks, and even have non-binary friends, but somehow deep down they still have a hard time getting away from the binary.
You may (or may not) recall that several months ago I called out The Good Men Project for repeatedly publishing stories that talk about differences in men's and women's brains even though they ostensibly do not support "gender essentialism." This belief is deep in our subconscious minds and it's hard for people to get away from - one of the reasons that I keep talking about it. For the record, TGMP took me seriously, and is doing a better job of monitoring contributing writers for this sort of thing.
