Women are attracted to self-confidence and good social skills - qualities that so called bad boys often have. There's no evolutionary benefit to liking someone who is irresponsible, doesn't treat you well, etc., so they aren't attracted to that part. It just so happens to often come with the parts that are attractive, like confidence and social skills.
