Women are hard-core socialized to do this from birth. I don't know your age, but I think you're on the younger side. In general, by the time women get into their 40s, they've shed a lot of this societal indoctrination and are better at advocating for themselves and going after what they want.

The more women in leadership a company has, the better it does financially. More collaborative (rather than self-serving leadership) actually benefits everyone - including the bottom line. So yes, it takes most women some time to push past their training to be accommodating (particularly to men) but a lot of them do get there. You would perhaps like a woman to lead you, but you're also wired differently than most men. Women who show up tough and decisive get called bitches; men who do that get called leaders. Most men have extremely negative reactions to women who are too assertive. Ball-buster, nag, pushy, bitchy... there are tons and tons of names for women who are "inappropriately" assertive. There are none for men - it's considered an important masculine trait. I get dinged for it regularly just because I'm extremely direct and unflinching in my statements. Fortunately, I'm to the point in my life where I don't care, but there's a HUGE amount of pushback from many men if women are seen to be too assertive in large part because many guys feels at least on a subconscious level that women exist FOR them. How many stories and newspaper reports have you read about women who were cussed out, hit with a brick in the face, or killed because they told a man they weren't interested or didn't want to give him their phone number?

My husband likes my assertiveness. He's not intimidated by it at all, but he's also got a fair amount of self-confidence that a lot of other men don't have - because patriarchy breeds insecurity. So, lots of societal dynamics going on here - not all of them universal, but also pretty prevalent for many of them.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
