WTF are you even talking about? You are completely deluded and making shit up for your own purposes. The quest for civil rights was incredibly bloody, incredibly violent, and MLK supported non-violence, but not the kind of thing you are pretending took place.
Although King’s protest tactics were meant to be non-violent, they were also often intended to be intentionally provocative. In Birmingham, “King’s intent was to provoke mass arrests and ‘create a situation so crisis-packed that it will inevitably open the door to negotiation.’” In his famous Letter from Birmingham Jail, King points out that “We know through painful experience that freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.”
There are absolutely zero examples of "peaceful protest and respectful negotiations" ever resulting in anything. Ever heard of Act Up? All social change, everywhere throughout time has been accomplished through war and blood and demanding better treatment. Because as King noted, “We know through painful experience that freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.”
Don't be so fucking naive. It's ugly because it discounts the real struggles of real people to try to gain a little bit more equality.
