Yes - and there's also the fact that women have been actively barred from a lot of these professions until fairly recently, and still might suffer harassment and abuse for daring to enter them - even now.

In the US, women were never barred from mining but nobody would hire women until a law was passed in the late 70s that said that mines getting Federal contracts could not discriminate based on race or gender. Ten years later, there were 30,000 women in coal mining in the US and today women make up 40% of entry level mining positions around the world. They tend not to stay due to continued discrimination and lack of opportunities - but that's not due to them not wanting those jobs.
