He puts an intellectual sounding veneer over the same fears and emotions that they have and makes it seem like a holy crusade to slay a dragon by opposing those who seek to dismantle structures of unearned privilege and hierarchy. This feels much better than the uncertainty and vulnerability of actual grappling with those things.

As you noted, it's awfully convenient to decide that the world has always been this way - rather than only for about 6k years or so. He really is a piece of work as far as ignoring all the science that doesn't fit his narrative - which is rather substantial. But, he's raking in the dough peddling this nonsense and getting a lot of respect and acclaim in certain circles, so why wouldn't he? But I agree, he really is quite dangerous.
