Yes, I completely agree. The example you gave is sadly, a perfect one to illustrate all the flaws. The Reid Technique was developed in the 1940s as a way to supposedly be more “scientific” but it doesn’t take a lot of things into account about the variability of human nature or the life experiences of different people/demographics. Much of Europe has since abandoned it in favor of information gathering that seeks the truth, rather than seeks to browbeat confessions, strong-arm suspects, and predict guilt based on demeanor.

One of the biggest consulting groups responsible for training police officers has stopped using it as well, but Us vs. Them and the Kansas City policing method, which is essentially stop and frisk on steroids, are still all too prevalent. Both of these are a very large contributor to what is causing so many problems with overzealous policing in our country.
