Yes, I think that may well be the case. Men are definitely encourage to bond with each other through denigrating and objectifying women, and through competition with each other, neither of which is real cameraderie. It teaches them to value the pecking order, and their potential place in it, for which they are always having to strive. It's been pointed out how much men must perform masculinity, and yet, you'd think that helping someone would be a way to do that, but it doesn't seem to be. It's definitely a fucked up system for everyone.
